SCAM ALERT:

Please be advised that if you have been contacted by a potential buyer requesting to purchase an item you have online for more than it's listed, odds are it is a scam!

Con artists are sending bogus money orders and checks for your goods posted online. Quite often they are sending a dollar amount that grossly exceeds the item's value, so the seller is apt to send the remaining funds using Western Union or some other money transfer process. The problem occurs when the seller refunds the buyer before the bank clears the check or money, which in some cases can take up to 90 days, depending on the bank and country you live in. As a result, the thiefs walk away with sometimes thousands of dollars while the seller is left holding the bag. These crimes have gathered so much attention that the CBS Evening News covered a story of one couple who were taken in by such a scheme.
